What is PYC-SMC?

The PILIPINO YOUTH COALITION - San Mateo County is a proud program of Daly City's Liwanag Kultural Center that serves as a support group of mostly high school-aged students with the guidance of a supportive, youth-friendly team of adult PYC Advisors. Although we are highly comprised of Pilipino youth, we do value diversity. Any young adult, regardless of ethnic background, is welcome to join us at PYC-SMC.

Ating Barkada (Homies)

  • Liwanag Kultural Center
    Affectionately known as "LKC", our home and the home of other great programs serving the Filipino Community of Northern San Mateo County.
  • Kalayaan School for Equity
    KSE, another proud program of LKC supporting the educational needs of Northern San Mateo County through their free afterschool Study Hall, arts workshops, and culturally-relevant curriculum exploring community issues in the spirit of social justice and equity.
  • Downe Organizing Project
    A grassroots organization raising the issues facing gay men of color.
  • F.A.C.E.S.
    Friday Afterschool Culture & Entertainment at The Spot, a weekly afterschool center for Jefferson High School students featuring monthly schoolwide events.

  • Advisors Boogie Down

    A couple weeks ago, some of our own PYC-SMC Advisors got down in a fownky dance battle called A Town to Boogie Down. They made it past the preliminaries and got to the first round and to think this was Vic’s first competition!

    The event was held in Hayward, CA at the East Bay Arts High School and was a fundraiser to send some of their youth out to New York to learn from the OG B-Boys and B-Girls.

    Ka Lok One and Snorlocks vs Gravy Train

    Oh yeah, if you are interested, Vic and Alan also help out with the “Pop/Lock Movement” dance classes on Tuesdays 7 to 8:30pm at LKC! They work along with GroovMekanex‘s Chaz and KSE‘s Matt (aka Ninoy Brown from Fobb Deep).
