Advisors Boogie Down
Posted on March 8th, 2010 No commentsA couple weeks ago, some of our own PYC-SMC Advisors got down in a fownky dance battle called A Town to Boogie Down. They made it past the preliminaries and got to the first round and to think this was Vic’s first competition!
The event was held in Hayward, CA at the East Bay Arts High School and was a fundraiser to send some of their youth out to New York to learn from the OG B-Boys and B-Girls.
Peep the clips…
Ka Lok One and Snorlocks vs Gravy Train
Oh yeah, if you are interested, Vic and Alan also help out with the “Pop/Lock Movement” dance classes on Tuesdays 7 to 8:30pm at LKC! They work along with GroovMekanex’s Chaz and KSE’s Matt (aka Ninoy Brown from Fobb Deep).

Walk for Dreams Scholarships FREE MONEY FOR SCHOOL!
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 1 commentLiwanag Kultural Center is offering two $500 “Walk for Dreams” Scholarships to students who are entering or continuing at a 2- or 4-year college/university in Fall 2010. In the spirit of our “Walk for Dreams” walk-a-thon which helped us raise the scholarship money, we are looking to raise awareness about the issues facing undocumented immigrant students who cannot avail of conventional Financial Aid and many other scholarship opportunities due to their immigration status. So many of these hard-working young people had no say in the decision to immigrate to this country and, often times, are completely unaware that they are in fact undocumented until they begin the college application process. Liwanag Kultural Center believes that, while the Immigration Debate is a complex one, all young people deserve access to a quality education. The minimum eligibility requirements for the scholarship are as follows:
SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
•Must be currently enrolled in high school or college/university.
•High school applicants will complete graduation requirements by the end of Spring 2010.
•Will attend college in the Fall 2010.
•Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or better.Deadline: Thursday, April 15, 2010

Alcohol effects on Filipino Youth and Families in Daly City
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 No commentsSo PYC-SMC will be working on another video project soon.
Here’s the video that we worked on last Summer. It talks about the effects of Alcohol (and drugs) on youth and families in Daly City.
The process involved group discussions, poem and story writing, role playing, video and audio recording, editing, etc…
All stories are real. Locations are identified as places were youth are using or accessing alcohol and drugs.
